For my Draft Design I wanted to focus on my current position, and the people who make this job enjoyable. There is a lot of negative feedback out in the world about Amazon and a majority of that focuses on their Fulfillment Centers. These jobs are very difficult, and often the workers are overlooked. My goal working in a fulfillment center was to make sure that my team felt recognized and appreciated for all that they do every day.
My design process focused heavily on visual unity, as they all were taken at my place of work by me, and they all have a similar color tone. In terms of my choice of layout, I utilized the layers photoshop tutorials that we did, as it was the most appealing and enjoyable to me to do, as well as it fits well overall with this draft design project. The theme of delivering smiles is an Amazon internal slogan, but it fits well with my topic in that whilst I am trying to move around within the company, I want to help change the culture around the FC’s and the perception that not only people have outside of Amazon, but what workers have inside the facility. My goal is to help people grow and have the best day they possibly can while here.
The significance of the images is that they are my coworkers who put in a ton of hard work every day, making sure that orders are fulfilled, and delivering smiles to the customers. The top left photo is of me and my peer RJ who is a newer Area Manager, I have trained him in a ton of the processes in our department, and I am showing him my leadership style so that we can change the impression and perception of FC’s. The top right is of one of my associates Jacob who got to name one of the robots after picking 5,000 units in a normal shift. It’s a big accomplishment, and he accomplished that the same day I did my 5,000-unit day so it was cool to see buy in from the team. Finally, the bottom photo is of me and our PA Philip who does so much work behind the scenes to keep our shift running. He often doesn’t get the credit he deserves but does the work anyways.
For my final draft, I will add much more detail. My main goal for this outline was to have a base to work from. I am still reacclimating to Adobe, as it has been a bit since I last used the software. In my final draft my focus will be on adding more details, maybe a few more photos, and making sure that the flow of the composition is more complete. I also will likely utilize some more color scheming to maximize the contrast, and make sure that the photos pop more off the background. I also plan on utilizing a different photo as the background and will take a few more over my workweek to get some unique and visually appealing pictures.

Hi Chase, I love the mission of your graphic to uplift your colleagues! It sounds like you have plans to add more details and play with the composition which will be great. Knowing that, some of my comments might be things you’re already considering.
Right now, with the photos being kind of similar in size they’re competing a little bit in the hierarchy for me. Maybe one could be super big and then the others smaller and a little more secondary? Or if you’d like them to all have the same visual weight, then they could be more similar in size. The first thing my eye goes to is the orange box with the type. Would you like that to be the primary focus or the photos?
The graphic overall feels really cohesive. I think the orange you’re using is working super well. It ties in really nicely with the orange pieces in the photos and looks good with the yellow of your background photo too. I can’t wait to see your final draft!
Best,
Alex

Hi Chase! I enjoyed reading your blog post and think your goal of making sure your team feels recognized and appreciated is so important and honorable! That’ll go far in helping to create job satisfaction and a positive work environment so kudos to you on your efforts. For your graphic, perhaps you could add a layer of texture over the background image or make it a bit transparent. While all of the pictures on their own are great, it does feel like the background is competing with the smaller photos since it’s just as sharp and in focus. Since your small images seem to be the ones you want to draw the most attention to, it might be something to consider. I’m wondering also how it might look to have the photos all be the same size to help fill out the background space and create more unity and balance unless you were intending for the middle photo to be the focal point. Lastly, I like the slogan you used but maybe it would look nice to enlarge the text so it fills out the orange space more or having it be two lines of text instead! Regardless, I think you’re off to a great start!

Hi Chase! I appreciate the background you provided and I love that you’re honoring your coworkers.
I think using the orange consistently throughout creates visual unity and brings everything together very nicely. My main feedback is that my eye doesn’t quite know what to focus on. I would recommend some textures and/or transparency to separate the three photos from the background image and create some kind of hierarchy. I can see that you are utilizing drop shadows, which helps a lot but I think finding a way to differentiate the elements will elevate your design even further.
I think you’ve picked a great quote to include because it’s short and sweet. What if you played around with the text a bit to give it some more visual appeal? Enlarging the text and centering it within the orange box could be a good start. It may even be cool to have the text without the box behind it and use the orange color/drop shadows to create some contrast.
I think this is an awesome start and you can do some really cool things with this design. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

After reviewing my peers’ feedback, I really appreciate the candor, and ideas they gave me. I will be adding more visual diversity in the image sizes, as well as adding texture to the working, as I agree that is a weak aspect. I think combining what Molly and Alex said about the pictures would be a great idea, as I can change the sizes to create a more striking piece overall.
Also, after seeing how amazing their work was, it inspired me to change my piece. I was astounded by how amazing their work was, and it was a great learning exercise seeing so many great ideas.
For my final draft I will be editing quite a bit of the overall piece. I think that I can make this a much more visually appealing project overall not only by including aspects that my classmates said, but also with my original ideas in my initial blog post.
