Draft Video

Do you ever feel trapped at your job, and yearn for something different? Ops to Ads is a blog that is dedicated to my journey from leaving my position at Amazon as an Area Manager to finding a new position. The journey was tough, with ups and downs, but I have moved back to Washington, and am now working from home with DocuSign. My journey may be over, but this blog is a place to share your story of new beginnings and trusting and believing in yourself to make a job and life change. Trust in yourself, and amazing things will happen. Please share your stories on my blog ops to ads to continue to inspire, and motivate people to chase their dreams.

The filming process for this was a compilation of photos and videos I had previously recorded when I was working at Amazon, as well as some shots from my move to Seattle, and my current working desk/setup for DocuSign.

The editing process was unique in that my computer is very bad at running Premiere, and I have run into a litany of issues throughout the tutorials, and this draft. I utilized those drafts to inspire the various transitions/panning shots, as well as trying my best to cut certain videos together.

The significance of my story is it’s the culmination of my entire blog topic. I had set out to be happier, and leave an environment where I worked 12 hour night shifts, to something where I work from home, and have a normal schedule. It has been a journey the past few months, but I wanted to make a place to inspire others to know their self-worth, and abilities so they can chase their dreams.

I utilized my iPhone to capture all the video/audio, and I will be editing the audio quite a bit for the final draft. The issue I have with it is there is a bit of choppiness, and I think I can clean it up quite a bit. For the final I also will experiment more with some different photographs, and perhaps replace/stabilize the footage more as it has some shakiness.

I look forward to the comments/suggestions, and I really appreciate the feedback.

  1. Hi Chase,

I like the message behind your video! I could tell what message you were trying to get across. I like that you included both videos and pictures. In your second video clip, you use it twice. It might just be my eyes but the side to side movement seemed quick. I think if you’re going to use it, maybe just use it with the camera going in one direction and replace the second clip with something else so you’re not repeating footage. I also think the video around 32 seconds seems accidental to me. You pan out quickly and the footage gets blurry and goes down towards the floor. I think it would be great if you could get a couple more raw video clips and replace those two clips with something different. Overall, I like your message and I think you did a good job! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product.

  2. Hi Chase! First of all, I love the creativity of your blog name – super catchy. I think your video is a great start. The concept is inspirational and clearly shows the whole point of your blog while also capturing a high level view of your journey. The music pairs well with the inspirational motif of the video and your narration is clear and concise! I know you mentioned in your blog post that for the final you will experiment with different photos, and that was my main suggestion. While it’s awesome to see your day to day workspace, it may be cool to incorporate some footage of your outside life as well seeing as you have better work life balance outside of Amazon.
I also agree that there is a little bit of choppiness, but I know you’ll get that straightened out in the final!
Can’t wait to see your final product.

ps: I feel you on the Premiere struggles!

  3. Self reflection:

After seeing my peers’ fantastic examples of drafts, I will edit the final version pretty heavily. I think I will extend the length of the project as suggested, as well as add ore photos. The videos will be edited a bit more to stabilize/minimize movement, and I will redo/add to the voice track to make it clearer, mitigate the mouth sounds, and to emphasize more emotion. I also might change the background track to a different point in the song. For the final I also will focus on getting premiere to work for me or perhaps utilizing a different computer as my computer has really had a tough time with this unit. I think that the ideas my peers used inspired me to change quite a bit of my story, so I look forward to what people think next week once I make the adjustments. Thank you for reading, and giving suggestions.

  4. Hi Chase!
I really like the concept of your blog and am glad you have been able to find a better work/life balance with a new job. I feel you there, I also recently left a job working overnight hours for one that gives me normal hours and three-day weekends! I agree with Natalie that the video from around 30 seconds in seems a bit off, but maybe if you can stabilize it a bit it the pan downward won’t seem to dramatic. I also think adding some different photos will make your video even better. I think you did a good job of giving your photos movement, that is something I have really been struggling with in Premiere. I also really like how you are trying to inspire people to follow their dreams, and to share their experiences along the way. I am excited to see what your final video looks like!
