Final Graphic Design Project

Me at work.

For my Final Design I wanted to focus on my current position, and the people who make this job enjoyable. There is a lot of negative feedback out in the world about Amazon and a majority of that focuses on their Fulfillment Centers. These jobs are very difficult, and often the workers are overlooked. My goal working in a fulfillment center was to make sure that my team felt recognized and appreciated for all that they do every day.
My design process focused heavily on visual unity, as they all were taken at my place of work by me, and they all have a similar color tone. In terms of my choice of layout, I utilized the layers photoshop tutorials that we did, as it was the most appealing and enjoyable to me to do, as well as it fits well overall with this final design project. The theme of delivering smiles is an Amazon internal slogan, but it fits well with my topic in that whilst I am trying to move around within the company, I want to help change the culture around the FC’s and the perception that not only people have outside of Amazon, but what workers have inside the facility. My goal is to help people grow and have the best day they possibly can while here.
The significance of the images is that they are my coworkers who put in a ton of hard work every day, making sure that orders are fulfilled, and delivering smiles to the customers. The left photo is of me and my peer RJ who is a newer Area Manager, I have trained him in a ton of the processes in our department, and I am showing him my leadership style so that we can change the impression and perception of FC’s. The middle is of one of my associates Jacob who got to name one of the robots after picking 5,000 units in a normal shift. It’s a big accomplishment, and he accomplished that the same day I did my 5,000-unit day so it was cool to see buy in from the team. Finally, the right photo is of me and our PA Philip who does so much work behind the scenes to keep our shift running. He often doesn’t get the credit he deserves but does the work anyways.
For the difference in the draft vs final, I redid the whole composition. I focused a lot on what my peers/professor said regarding the strong points like the color unity and decided to change the layout and background to make sure the reader can focus on the photos and not the background image. I changed the background image as well to show the facility, and the contrasting colors allows it to be more muted compared to the draft. I also changed the positioning, and page layout to a more landscape mode. This allowed the photos to all be the same size and fit the aesthetic. Finally, I redid the text adding a color gradient in orange to make it pop more and fit more within the composition. This was a real treat to work on, as I learned and saw so much great work from my peers, that it inspired such a change in my original design. I have learned a lot about photoshop and different processes through the entire project, and it has been a fantastic experience.

For my final draft, I will add much more detail. My main goal for this outline was to have a base to work from. I am still reacclimating to Adobe, as it has been a bit since I last used the software. In my final draft my focus will be on adding more details, maybe a few more photos, and making sure that the flow of the composition is more complete. I also will likely utilize some more color scheming to maximize the contrast, and make sure that the photos pop more off the background. I also plan on utilizing a different photo as the background and will take a few more over my workweek to get some unique and visually appealing pictures.

Career Changes, and Rearranges.

Me at work. Hello everyone, and welcome to my very first blog post on WordPress for my graduate school class. It is a privilege to be able to present this information to you, and I look forward to writing more, and connecting with my peers throughout this course.
For my topic over this semester I have decided to focus on the process I am currently running through, a career shift/change. Ever since I graduated back in Spring of 2020, I looked for a job which was not very easy due to unforeseen circumstances in the world. I wanted to get into Amazon, as I had taken COM 475 which was all about Amazon Advertising.
With the job search being so wonky I was reached out to by a recruiter on LinkedIn at Amazon for an Area Manager role. I jumped at the opportunity to get my foot in the door at the company, and have been there ever since. Now after a year I am looking at new opportunities within the company. I am applying to internal transfers, and other paths within Amazon.
The name Ops to Ads is hopeful, and will change depending on opportunities that come available. I am hoping to get into the advertising side of the company, but if not we will focus on my current role, and the trials and tribulations that are present. I have interviewed for a role in Santa Monica on the ads team, and am hopeful on the results of that.
In my current role I am in charge of 65+ associates leading them, delivering feedback positive and negative, whilst coaching them to meet customer expectations, and requirements. My goal as a AM was to build up people and create a connection so that they see me as in their corner, as previous managers have not had the best reputations.
Im excited to see how this blog progresses over the next few months, and am thankful for the opportunity to grow personally, and professionally over that time.
Thank you for your time today.
