Reflection Post

Me at work. Briefly, what is your personal relationship to the topic?
This was the most personal project we did in that it reflected the past year of my life working at Amazon, and the trials and tribulations that went along with that.
Why did you choose this Adobe program and, more particularly, this specific Unit project?
I chose this program in that it was the freshest, and also the one which I thought I could make improvements to in regards to music, photos, transitions.
How did you alter/improve the project? Be technical and specific.
I edited the track to be an acoustic guitar free use track instead of piano, I think this fits the vibe more, and is more relaxing overall. I changed some photos and removed a photo that I thought was less relevant. I also adjusted the transitions, and some framing so that it was less visually abrasive.
Why did you choose to alter the project in this way? What is the rationale behind your choices?
I chose to alter the project like this because it felt like the best thing to do for completing this journey. I wanted to be satisfied with the closure of this chapter of my life, and changing these things allows me to be happy with my final project for this course.
If you were to employ this project for professional application, what would your vision be?
I think this video would work well in a former Amazon support group, they treat their fulfillment workers so poorly, it shows that things can get better if you bet on yourself.
Which media avenue would you choose?
I think social media, is the most prevalent matter of distribution and YouTube being the paramount choice.
Who is your defined audience and how did you improve the content to effectively reach them (hypothetically)?
My audience is the modern American worker who feels beaten down by the system and is finding it hard to find motivation. I improved the content to make it more approachable, and made it so that they can believe in themselves.

Premiere Final

Me at work. SCRIPT:
Do you ever feel trapped at your job, and yearn for something different? Ops to Ads is a blog that is dedicated to my journey from leaving my position at Amazon as an Area Manager to finding a new position. The journey was tough, with ups and downs, such as leaving with no backup, but I bet on myself, and it has paid off. I have moved back to Washington and am now working from home with DocuSign. My journey may be over, but this blog is a place to share your story of new beginnings and trusting and believing in yourself to make a job and life change. Trust in yourself, and amazing things will happen. Please share your stories on my blog ops to ads to continue to inspire and motivate people to chase their dreams.
Storyboard
Intro title 4-5 seconds
Laptop vid 5 sec
Panning shot of AR floor 12 seconds
Photos of me/totes 6 seconds
Quick AR floor pan shot 3 sec
Work from home set up approx. 20 seconds
Close out slide 3 seconds
The filming process for this was a compilation of photos and videos I had previously recorded when I was working at Amazon, as well as some shots from my move to Seattle, and my current working desk/setup for DocuSign.
The editing process was unique in that my computer is very bad at running Premiere, and I have run into a litany of issues throughout the tutorials, and this draft. I utilized those drafts to inspire the various transitions/panning shots, as well as trying my best to cut certain videos together.
The significance of my story is it’s the culmination of my entire blog topic. I had set out to be happier and leave an environment where I worked 12-hour night shifts, to something where I work from home, and have a normal schedule. It has been a journey the past few months, but I wanted to make a place to inspire others to know their self-worth, and abilities so they can chase their dreams.
I utilized my iPhone to capture all the video/audio, and I completely redid the audio quite a bit for the final version. I also redid the script and added some more context in response to the original’s shorter length. I cut the video that was too shaky to utilize based on feedback and swapped in more photographs to make up the space. Another edit I made was switch the cadence of the photos/transitions to maximize the effectiveness of the story. Finally, I made the text much larger for mobile displays, and changed the colors.

The issue I have with it is there is a bit of choppiness, and I think I can clean it up quite a bit. For the final I also will experiment more with some different photographs, and perhaps replace/stabilize the footage more as it has some shakiness.
I look forward to the comments/suggestions, and I really appreciate the feedback.

Final Audio Story

Me at work. My entire blog was based around my movement in my job cycle and me looking to make a career change. I have finally capitalized on this goal, and the goal of this audio story was to capture the story of my move from operations to my new position at DocuSign. As said in the story the journey is now complete…..and just beginning. I ended up leaving amazon mid-late February, due to unhappiness with the lack of progression and them consistently kicking the can down the road regarding promotions. I submitted my two weeks and was terrified afterwards. Not having something lined up is usually a bad move, but I bet on myself, and my talents overstaying somewhere I was miserable. I then started the job search, applied to hundreds upon hundreds of openings in the Seattle area, and had a few interviews, only to get the dreaded “unfortunately you were not selected” emails. I almost was doubting myself, but I kept moving forward, and I got a preliminary phone call with DocuSign. Once that went well, I had two 30-minute interviews with two people each, and I sold myself to them and why I can excel at the job. I heard back from the recruiter two days later and was ecstatic. I had accomplished my goal, betting on myself worked, and I was proud of myself for taking a risk. The position is all remote for the rest of the year which is also a huge plus coming from working 5pm-5am for 13.5 months. This is the culmination of this blog, and the steppingstone in my career path.
In the draft version I utilized a piano riff as the intro and outro of the piece. In reflection based on feedback from peers, I went and changed it to a more upbeat sounding track and layered that track throughout the entire piece. I also decided to add more meat to the story including some hopes, and fears based on this new position, and I added more context regarding the process of the search, and why I left Amazon. The recording process was very simple, I just used my iPhone, and tried my best to keep noise in the background to a minimum. I wanted to make my voice as clear as I could, so I cut out some dead air, and wrote a script so it was concise and not rambling. I went through the final version and cut a lot of open spaces, and the use of filler words. I am very proud of the final version in that it fixes a lot of the issues the draft version had, whilst making it more listenable and fleshed out. I made the intro and outro fade in and out to add closure to the whole piece, and I am excited to see what everyone thinks of the edits/rerecording.

The use of audition had become much easier due to the tutorials we did a week ago. The piano riff was found at the link at the bottom of this article, and I wanted to use it as the intro and outro for the story. I cut It and added a fade out to come into the story and on the way out. I think it turned out well, my ideas for the final are having ambient noise in the background throughout, and utilizing a longer outro to add some pizazz to the whole story.

Final Logo

Me at work.

For my final logo, I decided to focus on simplicity, and factors that I edited easily for the final draft. I focused on the colors again for this project and utilizing the orange and black as that is Amazon’s color scheme. I also experimented with the shape/size of the text as well as the line segment tool, and arc tool to create the shapes needed for this logo.
I also chose the font rockwell with a stroke point of 8 to maximize the fill and create a bold easy to read type. Since we are focusing on scalability, and simplicity for this logo project, I decided to make it very clear, simple, and a change from silom in my draft as it fit well with the duplicated arrow design.
For the arrows I thought it was a cool idea to lead the reader to each word, as well as evoking the smile logo that Amazon employs. It also works in a colorless version and can adapt to any color scheme as it is very simple and clear. The adaptability of the piece allows immense creativity, and broad scope of application in various contexts. I duplicated this in the final version to create a more coherent piece.
The tutorials offered a lot of inspiration, and the pencil and banner ones were the most useful in the creation of the final version, along with my peer’s drafts.
For the final I experimented with a lot more of the opacity/blending of colors to create a more striking logo. Also, I focused on what the feedback on the logo is and I implemented a lot of the suggestions, such as increasing the size of the font overall, and utilizing some opacity/blending. I changed the background from just a square to a circle with a square as the base layer. I edited the gradient to create and emphasize the “full circle” effect I was going for in this logo.
I took some inspiration from luxury designer brands such as Dior and Chanel’s logos as they are simple, clean, and display that clearly. I also from my initial sketches, realized adding the arrows added a lot to the composition, as it takes the readers on a journey not only to each of the words, but on my journey as well transitioning out of operations to a sales/advertising/marketing role. I think that this final version and the changes made emphasize the effect I was going for, whilst also being more in depth, and coherent than the draft version.
Illustrator was very interesting, and my computer had some difficulty running it a few times, but I enjoyed learning more about the program overall and I am pleased with the results.

For the final I will be experimenting with a lot more of the opacity/blending of colors to create a more striking logo. Also, I will focus on what the feedback on the logo is and I will be sure to implement a lot of those suggestions. I purposefully left it simple so it would be very easy to make alterations, and to make it more complete for the final versions. I also will experiment adding more shapes in the background or changing the dimensions of everything to see if something fits the project more ideally.

Illustrator was a lot more difficult for me than out last unit, and I look forward to getting better using it in the final draft. -
